If your oven is looking a bit worse for wear, covered in grease, burnt-on food and all those bits you really don't want to touch 😂 — don't worry, you're definitely not alone! At Wee Shine On, we clean ovens regularly, so we thought we'd share how we tackle an oven clean and some of the products we use along the way.

⚠️ IMPORTANT SAFETY WARNING

Before you get started, please take care when using cleaning products and equipment. 🧤 Wear suitable protective gloves. 🌬️ Make sure the room is well ventilated. 🚫 Never mix cleaning products or chemicals together. 🔌 Make sure the oven is switched off and completely cool before cleaning. ⚡ Keep products away from heating elements, fans and electrical components. 🧽 Don't use abrasive pads or metal scourers on surfaces that could be scratched or damaged. 📖 Always check your oven manufacturer's instructions before cleaning. 🧴 Follow the instructions on each product, including dilution and contact time. 👶 Keep cleaning products away from children and pets. If you're unsure whether a product is suitable for your oven, check the manufacturer's instructions first.

🛒 Products We Used

These are the products we used for this oven clean: 🧴 Selden J004 Oven Cleaner Our main oven-cleaning product. We dilute this with water before use, following the manufacturer's instructions. 🧽 Clean Pro Heavy Duty Scourers For suitable surfaces where we need a bit of extra scrubbing power. 🧴 Elbow Grease Spray Great for helping tackle those really greasy areas. 🔪 Oven Scraper Really handy for carefully removing stubborn, baked-on residue from suitable surfaces. 🧽 Soap-Filled Scourers Handy for tackling stubborn grime on suitable surfaces. 🧻 Blue Roll We get through plenty of this when we're cleaning ovens! 😂 🔦 Portable Cleaning Light This is brilliant for getting into those darker corners and making sure we haven't missed anything.

🔥 Step 1 – Get Everything Ready

First things first, make sure the oven is switched off and completely cool. Remove the racks and trays and protect the surrounding area before you start. Nobody wants oven cleaner running down their nice kitchen cupboards! 😂

🧹 Step 2 – Remove the Loose Dirt

We start by removing all the loose crumbs, burnt food and bits from inside the oven. Getting rid of the loose dirt first makes it much easier to concentrate on the baked-on grease. Our little portable light is also really useful here because it helps us see into those darker corners.

🧴 Step 3 – Time for the Oven Cleaner

We use Selden J004 Oven Cleaner, diluted with water according to the manufacturer's instructions. We apply it to the areas that need attention and give it time to work. Don't rush this bit! Letting the product work on the grease first can make a massive difference and saves you having to scrub away at everything straight away.

🧽 Step 4 – Tackle the Grease

For particularly greasy areas, we use Elbow Grease Spray to help break down the grease and grime. Then we can start working on those stubborn areas. Remember — never mix cleaning products together. Use each product according to its own instructions.

💪 Step 5 – Get Scrubbing!

Now comes the elbow grease! 😂 We use our soap-filled scourers and Clean Pro scourers on appropriate surfaces to help remove stubborn dirt and grime. For really baked-on residue, an oven scraper can be useful on suitable surfaces. ⚠️ Be careful with abrasive scourers and scrapers. They can scratch or damage some oven finishes, so always check the surface and manufacturer's instructions before using them.

✨ Step 6 – Don't Forget the Door

The oven door can make a huge difference to the finished look. We clean the glass and surrounding areas carefully, paying attention to those greasy edges and awkward little areas. Be careful around the door seals, vents and electrical components.

🧼 Step 7 – Wipe Everything Down

Once the grease and grime have been removed, it's time for the final wipe-down. We use blue roll and clean cloths to remove the dirt and cleaning-product residue. Keep wiping and rinsing until everything is clean. Then put the racks and trays back in...
